De Canon van Noord

A canon is a big message board with pieces of history worth remembering. These are described and illustrated in ‘windows‘. For example, there is a Canon of the Netherlands and a Canon of Amsterdam. Unfortunately, the women and girls of Noord are left out of these. That is why the Canon van Noord focuses on the role of women and looks at people, events, developments, buildings and places in Noord from their perspective.

Mijn Noord

Project by Jaap Breukel. A few years ago, photographer Jaap Breukel moved to Amsterdam-Noord. The view from his flat made him curious. Who are those Northerners who live in the garden village across the water anyway? He decided to take his camera with him while walking through the neighborhood. That's how he discovered 'Mijn Noord'. The project consists of a web documentary, exhibition, book and a film.

The End of the World — Asterdorp

Documentary by Saskia van den Heuvel. The residential school Asterdorp was inaugurated in 1927, intended for those ‘who had yet to learn how to live’, but what exactly did that term mean...? In popular parlance, it soon became a village for ‘anti-socials’. In The End of the World, former residents themselves talk about their time in Asterdorp.
